ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A 19-year-old man has been arrested and charged following an alleged carjacking, robbery and assault that occurred while a driver was pumping gas in the early hours on Sunday.

At 12:20 a.m. on Sunday, April 14, officers with the Albemarle County Police Department responded to the 600 block of County Green Road for the report of a carjacking that had just occurred.

The male victim reported that he was pumping gas when he was approached by a person who demanded his car and then assaulted the victim.

The victim’s wallet and cell phone were also taken during the incident. The victim had non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at the scene.

At 1:21 a.m., deputies with the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office found the victim’s vehicle, which was disabled along Route 29.

Officials said the driver of the vehicle, 19-year-old Jarece C. Breeden, of North Carolina, was identified as the suspect of the earlier carjacking. Breeden was taken into custody by the sheriff’s office and charged with the following grand larceny, carjacking, robbery and assault and battery.

Breeden is being held without bond at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail in Amherst County.
