MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A woman was arrested after an Uber driver was carjacked in Whitehaven early Sunday morning, according to the Memphis Police Department (MPD).

MPD said a Lashaundra Cox was driving for Uber around 2 a.m. on April 14 when she picked up a man and 18-year-old Danitra Coleman.

"My main job is I'm an educator for Memphis-Shelby County Schools. I did Uber to make extra money as an educator because I don't make a lot of money," Cox told FOX13.

Coleman was arrested the next day and admitted to taking part in the carjacking and driving Cox's stolen Honda away from the scene, according to her arrest affidavit.

"Keep them," Cox said. "If you catch these people, keep them in jail. Like don't give them a low bond because all they're going to do is do it again."

Cox told police that she was supposed to drop the pair off near the intersection of Boeingshire Avenue and Danberry Avenue, but when she arrived to the destination Coleman kept asking her questions like whether or not her 2020 silver Honda Accord had a tracker on it or not.

"I told her Apple Air Tag, even though I really didn't have tracking on it," Cox said.

A light-colored Jeep was circling the area where she was supposed to drop the pair off and the man in her car put a gun to her side and demanded that she get out of the Honda, according to police.

"He opened his door and leaned up and brandished a gun at me," Cox said.

Cox told police that she tried to reach for her phone and the man told her "You might as well leave that," MPD said.

"I was like 'Just please don't shoot me. Just let me go,'" Cox told FOX13.

As Cox backed away from her Honda, the pair sped off in the stolen vehicle and the Uber driver ran to a nearby house and called for help, police said.

Along with the Cox's phone and car, police said the pair stole her Smith and Wesson 380 which was hidden inside the vehicle.
