Welcome to Arrest Stories. A Dallas rapper's album release celebration turned into a jail booking when a routine traffic stop revealed firearms and drugs just hours before his highly anticipated music launch. Here's what may have happened.
Twenty-seven-year-old Xavier Landum found himself behind bars on August twenty-first after what started as a simple traffic violation spiraled into serious charges. Police were patrolling the seventy-nine hundred block of Great Trinity Forest Way following tips about a car club meeting when they spotted Landum's Dodge Ram TRX truck pulling out of Williams Chicken without a front license plate.
Officers conducted the traffic stop on South Great Trinity Forest Way near U.S. one seventy-five at eight forty-three in the evening. When questioned about weapons in the vehicle, Landum was cooperative, telling officers, "Mine is under my arm rest." Police discovered the firearm exactly where he indicated.
The situation escalated when a database check revealed Arlington Police had Landum listed as a documented gang member. This designation made his firearm possession a misdemeanor under Texas law. Officers also found approximately three point four grams of suspected marijuana and rolling papers during their search of the truck.
The timing couldn't have been worse for the rapper. His album "I Hope You're Happy" was scheduled for official release the following day, with Wingstop planning to host his album release party. The restaurant later issued a statement saying, "Due to unforeseen circumstances, the event will not take place as planned."
Landum's legal team downplayed the charges, with his attorney stating, "It's two misdemeanors. People are saying it's a felony and it's not. We're going to work vigorously for our client because it just is what it is."
The rapper was released from jail Friday around four in the afternoon, just as his album hit streaming platforms. This arrest follows a previous February incident in Arlington for marijuana possession.
All suspects presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Do not take this report as factual, always verify facts. Thanks for watching Arrest Stories.
