Welcome to Arrest Stories. A twenty-five-year-old man disguised in a wig and sunglasses was captured in Massachusetts after five years on the run for allegedly beating a two-year-old to death while babysitting. Here's what may have happened.
On Wednesday morning in Framingham, Massachusetts, what started as routine police work turned into the capture of one of Ohio's most wanted fugitives. Dioblis Williams had been evading authorities since being charged with murder in August for the tragic death of a toddler that occurred five years earlier.
According to official reports, Framingham Police K-Nine Officer Andrew Lewis was driving to a briefing about Williams when he spotted two individuals walking on the sidewalk near forty-two Union Avenue. One person caught his attention immediately.
"As the arresting officer was driving there, he noticed these two and noticed that they did not fit the area; they were unknown to him," officials stated. "While on his way to the briefing, Framingham Police K-Nine Officer Andrew Lewis noticed a pair of individuals walking on the sidewalk, one of whom appeared to be wearing a wig."
The person in question was Williams, disguised as a woman wearing a wig, sunglasses, and hair tie to conceal his identity. When officers attempted to stop him, Williams panicked and ran across Union Avenue. His desperate escape attempt was short-lived as he stumbled, dropped his wig, and ultimately surrendered to authorities.
This arrest stems from events that occurred on March twenty-fifth, twenty twenty, when police responded to an apartment on Columbus's Northeast Side for a reported drowning. Williams was babysitting the two-year-old boy when the child was found beaten to death in a bathtub. While Williams initially told police the child had drowned while unsupervised, an autopsy revealed numerous internal injuries and bruising around the head and neck, indicating death by blunt force trauma.
The United States Marshals Service tracked Williams to Massachusetts after he was formally charged with murder in August. "Today's arrest is a reminder that you can run, but you can't hide. Mr. Williams thought that he could evade arrest and accountability by hiding in Massachusetts. I hope that today's arrest brings us one step closer to justice for a young child whose life ended tragically."
