Welcome to Arrest Stories. A thirty-three-year-old Florida man faces multiple felony charges after allegedly pointing a gun at other drivers during a road rage incident on a Walton County highway. Here's what may have happened.
On Sunday around one o'clock in the afternoon, the Walton County Sheriff's Office received a nine-one-one call reporting a man pointing a firearm at other drivers while traveling north on Highway three-thirty-one South near Sherwood Road, just south of DeFuniak Springs.
According to police reports, victims were driving north on U.S. three-thirty-one when Blackie Alvarez, operating a white Ford Explorer, began an aggressive pursuit. Deputies stated that further investigation revealed Alvarez started speeding and honking at the victims as they traveled along the highway.
The victims told deputies that Alvarez sped around them and came to a complete stop directly in front of their vehicle, blocking their path. At that point, Alvarez took out a firearm and pointed it directly at the victims inside their car.
DeFuniak Springs police officers quickly located the white Ford Explorer driven by Alvarez and conducted a traffic stop. When officers approached, Alvarez exited his vehicle and pulled a black handgun from his waistband, placing the weapon on top of his car before surrendering to authorities.
During the arrest process, police recovered two metal knuckles from Alvarez's pockets. Officers also discovered that Alvarez was operating the vehicle without a valid driver's license.
Alvarez was transported to the Walton County Jail where he was booked on multiple charges including driving without a license, two counts of unlawful carry of a concealed weapon, two felony counts of false imprisonment, two felony counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and one felony count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Bond was set at two hundred thirty-five thousand dollars for the Bonifay resident.
