MAN ACCUSED OF SHOOTING GIRLFRIEND BY JOKING AROUND WITH GUN

Welcome to Arrest Stories. A 20-year-old man from Indianapolis has been charged with reckless homicide in the shooting death of his girlfriend.

Heres what may have happened.

On April 1, at around 11:45 p.m., Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officers responded to a report of a person shot at a home in the 500 block of Carlyle Place. When officers arrived, they found 21-year-old Rebecca June Carter shot. She was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, where she was pronounced dead.

According to court documents, Louis Jenkins Jr. was on the couch with Carter when the shooting occurred. Jenkins was holding his Taurus handgun in his right hand, but holding it to the side of him, pointing it at Carter. Jenkins allegedly shot Carter by mistake while "joking around" with a firearm.

Jenkins removed his handgun from a cubby on the side of the couch to show that he had self-defense, but it's unclear why he was holding the gun in the first place. The shooting occurred while Carter was on FaceTime with someone and "kissing the gun" minutes before the shooting.

Court documents state that Jenkins and Carter were playing with a gun while on the couch when the shooting occurred. This has been devastating for the community, with officials describing the incident as a "horrible tragedy."

"This has been devastating. We're all devastated. This was a horrible tragedy," said a spokesperson for the IMPD. Jenkins allegedly told police, "Oh my god. I'm so stupid. I had one in the head."

The incident has left many questioning how such a tragic event could occur. The shooting has been described as an accident, with one official stating, "shot her friend in the mouth on accident."

Jenkins is facing charges of reckless homicide, with bail set at $40,000. The case has sparked outrage and sadness in the community, with many calling for stricter gun laws.

All suspects presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Do not take this report as factual, always verify facts. Thanks for watching Arrest Stories.
