Welcome to Arrest Stories. A thirty-four-year-old Louisville man stands accused of stealing a vehicle with a nine-month-old baby inside, then dropping the infant at a hospital before fleeing the scene. Heres what may have happened.
Wednesday afternoon turned into every parent's nightmare when Brandon Conley allegedly committed a shocking crime that sent ripples through Louisville. According to police reports, the incident unfolded just after five o'clock in the afternoon near South Brook Street and East Broadway.
Parents had left their gold Chevrolet Trailblazer running while stepping away from the vehicle. Their nine-month-old baby remained inside the SUV during what appeared to be a brief absence. Police say Conley spotted the opportunity and waited until the parents walked far enough away before making his move.
The suspect allegedly got into the running vehicle and drove off with the infant still inside. What happened next shocked investigators. Rather than harm the child, Conley drove directly to University of Louisville Jewish Hospital where he carried the baby into the lobby, placed the nine-month-old on a couch, and fled the scene.
Hospital security cameras captured the entire drop-off, providing police with crucial footage that would later aid in the investigation. The infant was immediately safe and unharmed thanks to hospital staff who quickly responded to the unusual situation.
Law enforcement launched an immediate search for the stolen Trailblazer and suspect. Officers located the vehicle at the intersection of West Jefferson Street and South Tenth Street. Police attempted a traffic stop which resulted in a brief pursuit before successfully apprehending Conley.
The suspect now faces serious charges including kidnapping and kidnapping a minor, along with theft charges related to the stolen vehicle. Conley was scheduled for arraignment Thursday morning following his Wednesday arrest.
This bizarre case highlights the vulnerability created when vehicles are left running unattended, even briefly, and the unpredictable nature of criminal behavior.
