Welcome to Arrest Stories. A forty-six-year-old Missouri man was arrested on Highway Fifty near Sedalia after allegedly murdering his wife and fleeing with two children, prompting an Amber Alert. Here's what may have happened.
On Monday, January twelfth, twenty twenty-six, around noon, Malang Jan Akbari allegedly murdered his wife with a knife in the eleven hundred block of McCarty Street in Jefferson City. According to police reports, Akbari confronted the victim because he believed she was cheating on him and tampering with his food. When the victim started screaming and looking around the kitchen, Akbari stabbed her.
After the attack, Akbari laid the victim on the floor and put a pillow underneath her head. Police reports indicate Akbari sat with the victim as she bled out. Akbari then grabbed an eighteen-month-old child, said a prayer, and left the scene.
Following the murder, Akbari confessed to his son over the phone that he had killed his wife. The son rushed to the family home and found his mother unresponsive and bleeding out on the kitchen floor. At twelve twenty-five p.m., Akbari's son called nine-one-one to report that Akbari had killed his mother.
Akbari fled the scene with two children, the eighteen-month-old and a twelve-year-old daughter, heading westbound on U.S. Highway Fifty-four from Southwood Hills in Cole County. The group traveled in a blue twenty fifteen Honda Odyssey minivan with Missouri license plate JJ six M eight C.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol issued an Amber Alert Monday afternoon for the two children. Prior to his arrest, Akbari dropped off the toddler with a relative.
Authorities stopped the vehicle Akbari was driving on Highway Fifty near Sedalia on January twelfth. During questioning, Akbari reportedly told detectives there was no other option for him and that he sacrificed everything for her.
Akbari was scheduled to be arraigned in Cole County on January sixteenth.
