Welcome to Arrest Stories. A thirty-seven-year-old mother has been arrested on multiple charges after allegedly pushing past school security and fighting with a student at New Iberia Senior High School. Here's what may have happened.
On a Wednesday morning in New Iberia, Louisiana, Sabrina Silas arrived at New Iberia Senior High School campus during the busy morning drop-off period. According to police reports, Silas allegedly disguised herself as a student to gain unauthorized access to the school grounds.
Superintendent Heath Hulin explained the sequence of events, stating "The person tried to gain entry to the school and kind of pushed her way past our security point. We had to go to our second layer of defense and call the resource officer at that point."
Once inside the building, Silas reportedly became involved in a hallway altercation with students. The incident stemmed from an ongoing conflict between Silas' daughter and another student at the school. Police reports indicate that Silas helped her own daughter during the fight that was already taking place in the school hallway.
School administrators responded immediately to the breach. Hulin described their quick response, saying "They had several administrators standing at the entrance who immediately followed the visitor into the school, to try to stop them. Shortly after they entered through the front doors, within seconds the school resource officer was notified and the person was apprehended and escorted back to the front of the building."
The morning timing initially worked in Silas' favor. As Superintendent Hulin noted, "It's not uncommon for parents to be in the drop-off area in the morning. There were lots of people around, so seeing a parent near the front of the school did not immediately raise alarm."
Silas was arrested and charged with cruelty to a juvenile, unlawful disruption of the operation of a school, and disturbing the peace. She was subsequently removed from campus and banned from school grounds.
District officials emphasized their zero-tolerance policy, stating that such behavior will not be tolerated and that individuals involved in similar incidents may face bans from all school campuses and from attending school-sponsored activities.
All suspects presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Do not take this report as factual, always verify facts. Thanks for watching Arrest Stories.
