Welcome to Arrest Stories. A forty-eight-year-old Ohio mayor faces voyeurism charges after allegedly being caught on camera sniffing an underage relative's underwear while she was at school. Here's what may have happened.
This incident unfolded in Richland County, Ohio, involving Wesley R. Dingus, who served as mayor of Butler. The alleged offenses involve sniffing the previously worn underwear of a minor relative in his care, with both instances recorded by a small video camera.
The underage victim had grown suspicious that Dingus was entering her bedroom without permission. To document her suspicions, she purchased a small video camera and set it up in her room as a hidden recording device.
On January thirteenth, the victim left her home at approximately seven a.m. to go to school. Fifteen minutes after her departure, she received a notification on her phone indicating that motion had been detected in her bedroom. The video footage allegedly showed Dingus entering the victim's room and beginning to smell her underwear.
The Richland County Sheriff's Office began their investigation after being contacted by Richland County Children Services. A sergeant from the sheriff's office received communication that included video evidence showing an adult male going through a child's bedroom, picking up her underwear and smelling it.
The incidents allegedly took place while Dingus was out on bond awaiting trial for another criminal case. On January nineteenth, Dingus told deputies he was willing to speak with investigators about the allegations.
Dingus faces two counts of voyeurism in Mansfield Municipal Court. According to Ohio law, no person, for the purpose of sexually arousing or gratifying the person's self, shall commit trespass or otherwise surreptitiously invade the privacy of another, to spy or eavesdrop upon another.
Bond was set at twenty-five thousand dollars for the voyeurism charges. The case involves a minor who was under Dingus's care at the time of the alleged incidents.
