Welcome to Arrest Stories. A thirty-five-year-old Uber driver has been arrested in Ventura County for allegedly sexually assaulting an unconscious passenger after completing her ride. Here's what may have happened.
On November twenty-seventh, around one o'clock in the morning, Simranjit Singh Sekhon was working as a rideshare driver when he picked up a twenty-one-year-old woman outside a bar in Thousand Oaks, California. According to police reports, the victim was described as "intoxicated and unable to care for herself" when she requested the ride to her home in Camarillo.
During the trip, the woman fell asleep in Sekhon's vehicle. Police say after the ride was officially completed and marked as finished in the app, Sekhon made a disturbing decision. Instead of ending the trip as intended, he allegedly continued driving the unconscious woman around Camarillo.
Authorities report that while the victim remained unconscious, Sekhon sexually assaulted her during this extended period of driving around the city. The Ventura County Sheriff's Office investigation led to Sekhon's arrest on December fifteenth.
Following the arrest, Uber released a statement saying, "What has been reported is deeply disturbing and unacceptable. This behavior has no place on our platform. We have removed the driver's access and are assisting law enforcement with their investigation."
Sekhon has been charged with sexual assault and his bail was set at five hundred thousand dollars. Police believe there may be additional victims and are encouraging anyone with information to come forward.
The case highlights concerns about passenger safety in rideshare services, particularly involving vulnerable individuals who may be intoxicated. The investigation revealed that Sekhon exploited the victim's unconscious state after what should have been a routine ride home.
Detectives continue to investigate the incident and are working to determine if there are other unreported cases involving the suspect.
All suspects presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Do not take this report as factual, always verify facts. Thanks for watching Arrest Stories.
