Welcome to Arrest Stories. A Washington state doctor who sold vaccine exemptions for two hundred dollars each has been arrested on federal charges including conspiracy to defraud the Department of Transportation. Heres what may have happened.
On November twenty first, twenty twenty five, Drug Enforcement Agency agents arrested Anna Elperin in Ellensburg, Washington. Elperin, an osteopathic physician, faces charges of falsification of federal records, conspiracy to defraud the Department of Transportation, and conspiracy to dispense controlled substances.
Elperin operated as the only doctor at Awake Health clinic in central Washington. According to federal authorities, she provided patients with medical waivers for two hundred dollars, claiming they had medical conditions making vaccines and masks unsafe. During an undercover investigation by KING Five in November twenty twenty one, journalists obtained these waivers without Elperin ever conducting actual medical examinations.
The charges extend beyond fraudulent vaccine exemptions. Federal prosecutors allege Elperin wrote prescriptions for pain killers to employees and patients, who then provided some or all of the medication back to her for personal use. Additionally, authorities claim she provided fraudulent medical exams to truckers who had illnesses or conditions that disqualified them from obtaining commercial drivers licenses.
Elperin had previously expressed skepticism about public health measures, stating quote To me, this is a scam-demic. It has little to do with public health at this point it has more to do with government control end quote.
Her medical license faced multiple issues over recent years. In September twenty twenty two, her license was suspended. It was reinstated with restrictions in July twenty twenty three, but expired again in April twenty twenty four.
The Washington State Department of Health acknowledged receiving over thirty complaints about Elperin improperly issuing vaccination exemptions and stated they investigated drug use concerns but found insufficient evidence to proceed at the state level.
