Forty-eight-year-old Devon Lucie, chief meteorologist for WDSU, was arrested on October fifth at approximately one twenty-two in the morning following a domestic dispute that authorities say started hours earlier at a festival in Gretna.
According to arrest records, the incident began when Lucie allegedly left his girlfriend stranded at the festival without a ride home. The situation escalated when the woman arrived at Lucie's residence and had to use a tool to pry open the door because she didn't have a key.
Deputies report that once inside, Lucie entered the bedroom where his girlfriend was lying down and allegedly punched her multiple times. The woman fought back in what she described as self-defense, leading to a wrestling match between the two. Throughout this violent altercation, two children were present in the home, sleeping on the living room sofa.
When Jefferson Parish deputies arrived at the scene, both parties showed visible signs of injury. The victim sustained what officers described as several small cuts and scratches on most of her upper body, as well as several whelps on her forehead and face. Lucie also appeared injured but reportedly refused to clean his dried bloody injuries.
Adding to the complications, Lucie refused to provide deputies with his name and birthday during the arrest process. The meteorologist, who became WDSU's chief meteorologist in August of twenty twenty-five, was subsequently booked into Jefferson Parish Jail.
Following the arrest, WDSU officials confirmed that Lucie has been placed on leave pending the investigation. The station has not provided additional comment regarding the charges against their weather department head.
The case highlights concerns about domestic violence occurring in the presence of children and the serious nature of the alleged assault.
