Welcome to Arrest Stories. A forty-one-year-old woman faces serious charges after allegedly assaulting hospital staff and threatening to blow up a Jonesboro medical facility while in possession of methamphetamine. Here's what may have happened.
On September third, police rushed to NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital following reports of a violent disturbance. Officers arrived to find Deursla Barron allegedly "actively assaulting hospital staff" in what would escalate into a terrifying ordeal for healthcare workers.
According to official reports, Barron struck one person directly in the face when "he attempted to calm her" during the chaotic incident. The situation deteriorated further when Barron entered a hospital bathroom and "repeatedly slammed the door with such force" that it caused significant property damage.
But the most chilling aspect of this case involves what authorities say happened next. Barron allegedly made explicit threats to return to the hospital that very evening and blow up the entire facility, sending shockwaves through the medical staff who had been trying to help her.
During her arrest, officers discovered a clear plastic bag containing white powdery substance in Barron's pocket. Field testing reportedly confirmed the substance as methamphetamine, adding drug possession charges to an already serious list of allegations.
The charges against Barron include possession of methamphetamine less than two grams, first-degree terroristic threatening, and first-degree criminal mischief. A judge set her bond at fifty thousand dollars cash or surety.
Nine days after the incident, on September twelfth, a judge found probable cause to formally charge Barron with these serious felonies. Her arraignment in circuit court was scheduled for October thirtieth.
This case highlights the dangerous situations healthcare workers face while serving their communities, and the serious legal consequences that follow threats against medical facilities.
