Welcome to Arrest Stories. A sixty-year-old Anson woman has been arrested after police discovered her disabled daughter locked inside a dog kennel in her backyard. Here's what may have happened.
On November twenty-second, Anson Police Department officers responded to a welfare check call around eight thirty p.m. following reports of screaming heard from Kandice Thompson's backyard on Liberty Way. When officers arrived at the residence, they located a twenty-two-year-old female locked in the backyard of the residence.
According to police reports, the victim suffers from significant physical and mental disabilities. A concerned neighbor had called police after hearing the distressed screams, then recorded video as he confronted Thompson about the situation. In the footage, the disabled woman can be heard loudly crying and screaming from inside the kennel.
During the recorded confrontation, the neighbor questioned and scolded Thompson, stating "Watch, you can hear her, trying to get out. I mean, that's a dog kennel with the latch." Thompson was reportedly wearing a shirt that read "I'm one of those crazy people" during this encounter. The neighbor later commented "It's just amazing what somebody who's in charge of disabled, mentally challenged girls will do to them, I don't understand."
When officers interviewed the victim, she told police she was forced to stay in the kennel "a lot" as punishment for misbehaving. Police discovered that two other people with disabilities were also living in the house.
The victim was immediately sent to a local hospital to be checked out and has since been taken in by other family members. According to authorities, she was "removed from the unsafe environment and is receiving appropriate care and protective services."
Thompson was initially arrested on November twenty-second but was released on bond the same day. Over the following days, Anson Police Department officers "completed additional interviews, reviewed statements, and evaluated all evidence collected on the scene" before filing formal charges.
Thompson now faces multiple charges including aggravated kidnapping and injury to a disabled person. Bond has not been set for these additional charges.
All suspects presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Do not take this report as factual, always verify facts. Thanks for watching Arrest Stories.
