Welcome to Arrest Stories. A Maricopa County Sheriff's Office detention deputy was arrested in Chandler, Arizona, after an undercover sting operation targeting child sex trafficking. Heres what may have happened.
Emmanuel Carreon, thirty-seven years old, of Glendale, Arizona, had only recently graduated from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Detention Academy in April of twenty twenty-six. He was assigned to the Lower Buckeye Jail. Then, on May twenty-seventh, Carreon reached out over social media to what he believed was a fifteen-year-old girl. That account, however, was being operated by an undercover Chandler Police Department officer.
The following day, May twenty-eighth, Carreon contacted the account again. This time, he offered one hundred dollars in exchange for sex. During the exchange, Carreon sent two photos of himself. Investigators used those images to positively identify him through open-source databases.
Carreon then arranged a meetup at an apartment complex in Chandler. Surveillance officers were already in position, watching. According to court records, Carreon made several laps through the parking lot before sending a text message asking the girl to come outside.
Chandler Police officers conducted a traffic stop and arrested Carreon without incident. His phone, which had been used to contact the undercover account, was found in the vehicle, along with one hundred dollars in cash and a male enhancement supplement.
Following a post-Miranda interview, the probable cause statement noted, quote, the defendant admitted he knew what he was doing was wrong and that he was not thinking straight, end quote.
Carreon was booked on one count of felony child sex trafficking. His bond was set at two hundred thousand dollars. He was found eligible for a public defender. A status conference is scheduled for June fourth and a preliminary hearing for June eighth in Maricopa County Superior Court.
Carreon was placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office released a statement saying, quote, we remain committed to working with the Chandler Police Department and maintaining the integrity of the investigative process and upholding the standards and accountability expected of all employees, end quote.
