Carli Heller Used AI Chatbot to Plan Attack
Welcome to Arrest Stories.
A woman in Florida used an AI chatbot as a diary to plan an attack on law enforcement, and now she is facing serious charges.
Here's what may have happened.
Authorities have identified the suspect as Carli Michelle Heller. The incident took place in Bonita Springs, Florida. Police say that on September 26, Heller logged onto the Anthropic AI platform and wrote an entry claiming she was going to carry out a shooting at the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. In the message, she wrote, 'I'm going to shoot up the sheriff’s right the [expletive] now,' according to police reports. The following day, authorities allege that Heller posted a second threat on the same platform, implying she planned to go through with the violence. In this second message, she boasted about a newly acquired firearm and declared the warning a 'last chance.' Following the second threat, deputies responded to Heller's residence on Dean Street in Bonita Springs. Deputies detained Heller at her home. Heller is formally charged with making a written threat of violence. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office handled the investigation. All suspects presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
