Christopher Lee Drummond, forty years old, was booked into Jefferson County Jail in Birmingham, Alabama, shortly before noon on Monday. He was released that same afternoon after posting a sixty-six thousand dollar bond — two thirty thousand dollar bonds on strangulation charges and one six thousand dollar bond on a third-degree domestic violence charge.
Drummond is the heir to the Drummond Company, a coal mining empire founded in nineteen thirty-five by his grandfather, H.E. Drummond. His father, Garry Neil Drummond, ran the firm from nineteen seventy-three until his death in two thousand sixteen and was listed by Forbes as the wealthiest person in Alabama, with a net worth of nine hundred eighty million dollars in two thousand fifteen.
Drummond now faces charges across two cities. In Mountain Brook, he is charged with felony domestic violence strangulation and suffocation in connection with an alleged assault on his wife, Alexis Drummond, thirty-seven, at their four million dollar, seven-bedroom mansion in Shook Hill on February twenty-fifth. In Birmingham, he faces a felony strangulation charge tied to an alleged incident on September first, two thousand twenty-five, and a misdemeanor domestic violence charge related to a separate incident on September tenth, two thousand twenty-five. Arrest warrants were issued July seventeenth.
These charges follow a Protection from Abuse order Alexis filed in June, which was granted. In that filing, she alleged Christopher strangled her, assaulted her while she was pregnant, and held a gun to her head during their six-year relationship. She also noted in the filing that Christopher was incarcerated in Monaco at the time she submitted the petition.
According to civil court filings, Christopher was convicted of intentional violence against a spouse in Monaco in June and sentenced to forty-five days in the Remand Prison of Monaco, stemming from an alleged attack on Alexis at the Hotel de Paris in Monte Carlo, where she alleged he violently tore a necklace from her neck, broke her cell phone, and sprained her wrist.
Alexis has also alleged in civil filings that Christopher's attorneys dognapped her four-year-old Maltese puppy, Mila, during their divorce proceedings. The couple married in March two thousand twenty-three and have a child together.
In a statement posted to Instagram, Alexis wrote, quote, All I ever wanted was a protective order for myself and my children. I am the only person who has lived my experience, and I can only speak to what I have personally endured. She also wrote, I hopes this case remains open and unsealed, so that my truth can be heard.
Christopher Drummond's criminal attorney, Brett Bloomston, declined to comment. All allegations made in civil filings have not been proven in court.
