Why did a man flee toward a motel after firing shots at a woman and her child?

Here's what may have happened.

The altercation took place near Timothy Street and Ernest Drive in Auburndale, Florida. Police have identified the suspect in the case as Danford Thornton-Swain. Authorities allege that Thornton-Swain physically struck his girlfriend and damaged her phone during the dispute. The situation escalated when the suspect fired two rounds from a handgun in the direction of the woman and her young child. Following the shooting, Thornton-Swain fled the scene, heading toward Motel 92 along U.S. Highway 92 West. Officers tracked the suspect down and took him into custody shortly after the incident. He is formally charged with robbery without a firearm and discharging a firearm in public. Additional charges include multiple counts of attempted murder, battery, and witness tampering. The Auburndale Police Department is handling the investigation. Police have not released a motive for the attack. All suspects presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
