Welcome to Arrest Stories.

A 29-year-old driver allegedly slowed his truck to look at the man he just struck, then sped off into the night.

Here's what may have happened.

The crash happened on October 1 at the intersection of Moscow Street and France Avenue in San Francisco. Police say David Maldonado Sanabria was driving under the influence of alcohol and struck a 43-year-old pedestrian in the crosswalk. The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds on October 19. A witness pursued the suspect vehicle and captured a photo of the license plate before the truck fled the scene. Investigators used automated license plate readers and the witness photo to locate the vehicle three miles away from the crash site. Plainclothes officers spotted the truck and arrested Maldonado Sanabria after suspecting he was intoxicated. He is formally charged with second-degree murder, DUI causing fatality with reckless disregard, and multiple hit-and-run counts. Authorities also allege he refused a chemical test and has two prior DUI convictions on his record. The District Attorney is seeking to keep him detained without bail due to the significant risk to public safety. Police have not released the identity of the 43-year-old victim who died in the collision. All suspects presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Do not take this report as factual, always verify facts.
