Welcome to Arrest Stories. A food delivery driver in Prattville, Alabama is facing serious criminal charges after a sixteen-year-old girl was found unresponsive in a swimming pool. Heres what may have happened.
On June third, twenty twenty-six, officers with the Prattville Police Department responded to a residence on Simmons Road after receiving a report of a possible drowning. Upon arrival, officers and emergency personnel found a sixteen-year-old girl unresponsive in the pool and immediately initiated life-saving measures. The girl was LifeFlighted to Childrens Hospital. Two days later, on June fifth, twenty twenty-six, she succumbed to her injuries.
As investigators began piecing together the events leading up to that night, they turned their attention to how the girl had come to be in the condition she was in before entering the pool. Prattville Police Chief Mark Thompson stated that investigators determined that the victim had consumed a substantial amount of alcohol prior to entering the pool.
That alcohol, investigators say, had been delivered to the girl by Manoj Chitta. Chitta is in the country on a student visa and was working as a delivery driver for a food delivery service at the time. According to authorities, Chitta failed to verify the girls age prior to delivering the alcoholic beverages.
The investigation also uncovered another layer of concern. Investigators discovered that communications between Chitta and the girl had occurred outside of the delivery applications platform, suggesting contact beyond the standard boundaries of a routine delivery transaction.
Based on the evidence gathered during the investigation, Chitta was arrested and charged with Sale of Alcohol to a Minor and Criminally Negligent Homicide. He is currently being held in the Autauga County Jail. The investigation remains ongoing.
