A man was arrested for the death of a young child, but police say video evidence places him nowhere near the scene.

Here's what may have happened.

The incident took place at an apartment complex off Central Avenue. On August 16, officers responded to an unrelated call nearby and heard screaming from the pool area. They discovered a civilian performing CPR on a child who had been pulled from the water. Surveillance footage showed the four-year-old boy entering the pool and slipping underwater. Approximately nine minutes passed before the child was rescued. The boy died five days later at Erlanger Hospital. Police identified Deshundre Vinson as the suspect in the case. Detectives reviewed video and did not observe Vinson at the pool before, during, or after the drowning. Police located Vinson at a home on Laws Avenue and took him into custody. He is charged with first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse. The Chattanooga Police Department handled the investigation. All suspects presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
