On Monday, July twenty first, twenty twenty six, twenty three year old Le'Veon Moss, a former Texas A and M running back and retired Miami Dolphins signee, was arrested in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on one felony count of cruelty to juveniles. He was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, with bond set at twenty five thousand dollars.
According to the arrest affidavit obtained by WBRZ and KBTX, Baton Rouge police responded to Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital at approximately one fifty one in the afternoon after Moss arrived with his two year old son, who had suffered a gunshot wound. Moss and his girlfriend drove the child to the hospital in a private vehicle.
Moss told investigators he had placed a loaded handgun underneath a pillow in his bedroom at the family's apartment on South Flannery Road. Moss said he had been asleep in bed with his toddler son when the child gained access to the weapon and fired a single shot. The extent of the child's injuries has not been released.
The affidavit stated, quote, due to Moss' negligence, a child under the age of seventeen suffered unjustifiable pain, end quote.
This is not Moss's first encounter with law enforcement. On July thirteenth, twenty twenty five, while still a senior at Texas A and M, Moss was arrested by College Station Police on a disorderly conduct charge after allegedly threatening to assault an unidentified man. He posted a three hundred dollar bond and was released the same day.
Before his legal troubles, Moss had built a notable college career, rushing for one thousand seven hundred sixty seven yards and twenty two touchdowns in thirty two games across four seasons with the Texas A and M Aggies. He went undrafted in the twenty twenty six NFL Draft, signed with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent, and retired just four days later. His contract included two hundred fifty eight thousand dollars in guaranteed money. He never appeared in a game.
