Welcome to Arrest Stories. A former college wrestler and WWE prospect faces serious felony charges after a pregnant woman described a terrifying night inside his Lincoln, Nebraska apartment. Heres what may have happened.
Albert AJ Ferrari, twenty-five, a former wrestler for the University of Nebraska Huskers and a member of WWE's inaugural NIL, or Next in Line, class in two thousand twenty-one, now faces charges of assault by strangulation or suffocation on a pregnant woman, third-degree domestic assault, and first-degree false imprisonment, all filed in Lancaster County Court.
According to an arrest affidavit, at approximately eleven p.m. on May seventh, Ferrari and the pregnant woman began arguing inside his Lincoln apartment. The woman told police she hid inside a closet and used her iPad to try to contact her mother. Ferrari followed her, pushed her onto a bed, and refused to get off of her until she apologized.
The affidavit further states that Ferrari took the woman's phone, lay on top of her, and dragged her off the bed before strangling her on the floor. The woman told police she felt as though her throat collapsed and that she was breathing through a straw.
On May eighth, just after midnight, the woman's mother contacted Lincoln police seeking help after receiving a distress call from her daughter. Officers responded to Ferrari's apartment, knocked on the door for several minutes, and received no answer. The pregnant woman eventually exited the residence and was described as visibly upset.
The woman was transported to Bryan Medical Center West Campus, where she was treated and released. Medical records confirmed she sustained abrasions and bruises on her neck consistent with strangulation. After leaving the hospital, she went directly to the Lincoln Airport and flew back home to California.
A warrant for Ferrari's arrest was issued that Thursday. The woman also filed a restraining order against him, with a hearing set for three thirty p.m. on July seventh in Lancaster County District Court.
This is not Ferrari's first legal trouble. Just days before the warrant was issued, he was arrested in a separate matter after a high-speed chase in the North Platte area and booked on suspicion of flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, and disturbing the peace. He posted a two thousand dollar bond and was released.
In two thousand twenty-two, Ferrari was charged with felony sexual battery. Those charges were later dropped after the district attorney cited vicious attacks and harassment directed at the plaintiff online. Ferrari maintained his innocence. He parted ways with the Nebraska Huskers in April.
