Welcome to Arrest Stories. A Florida man with multiple active warrants led Orange County deputies on a reckless high speed chase through Orlando with two young children inside his vehicle. Heres what may have happened.
On June ninth, twenty twenty six, in Orange County, Florida, deputies attempted a routine traffic stop on twenty four year old Jason Kenon. Kenon, who had multiple active warrants out for his arrest, sped away rather than submit to questioning. Inside his vehicle were an adult passenger and two children, ages one and four.
Kenon zigzagged through lanes of traffic in Orlando as deputies followed by car on the ground. A sheriff's helicopter tracked his vehicle from above, capturing the entire incident on overhead video. The chopper footage showed Kenon attempting to get around a black SUV at a stop sign before he plowed into its rear end. Despite the collision, Kenon recovered and continued driving.
Kenon then stopped in a residential neighborhood, where the adult passenger exited the vehicle carrying the one year old child. Helicopter footage shows the two of them running across a parking lot. The four year old attempted to exit the vehicle as well, but before the child could get out, Kenon hit the gas and drove off again with the four year old still in the back seat.
Kenon stopped a second time near a building, got out of the car, and lifted the four year old from the backseat. The child followed Kenon as he ran. Kenon then jogged through an alley, kicked off his shoes, and began running barefoot in the opposite direction from the child, leaving the boy behind. An officer can be heard on bodycam audio saying, quote, alright, he left the kid behind.
Seconds later, Kenon ran into the road and attempted to scale a fence leading into a wooded area. Two police cars had already converged on the location. Deputies ordered Kenon to the ground, where he was taken into custody. A deputy then reached the four year old, who was crying and holding Kenons shoes. The deputy was heard saying, quote, its okay, its okay, while picking the boy up. Both children were evaluated and were not injured.
The Orange County Sheriff's Office stated, quote, he later stopped, fled on foot and left the child behind while attempting to escape. Deputies took the suspect into custody moments later. Both children were evaluated and were not injured.
According to court records, Kenon faces seven charges including aggravated fleeing and eluding, two counts of child neglect, leaving the scene of a crash, reckless driving, possession of marijuana, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Kenon was being held on no bond pursuant to a warrant out of Osceola County for a violation of probation. In December twenty twenty five, Kenon had been sentenced to ninety four days in jail by a judge in Osceola County for burglarizing a building and felony grand theft in the third degree, to which he had pleaded no contest.
