Welcome to Arrest Stories. A Georgia high school biology teacher faces thirteen felony charges after allegedly having sexual contact with six teenage students, and a cellphone video may hold a key piece of evidence that investigators say they will never forget. Heres what may have happened.
Maris Nichols, twenty-five years old, was a biology teacher at Alexander High School in Douglas County, Georgia. She had been hired by the school three years prior to her arrest and also served as a player personnel director for the high school football program.
On April twenty-third, investigators allege Nichols had sexual intercourse with a student inside a closet within her classroom at Alexander High School. Then on May second, she allegedly had sexual intercourse with a student inside a car. A third alleged encounter on May third involved a different student at a local golf course. Specifically, a warrant was served to obtain surveillance video from Saint Andrews Golf Course, which investigators described as showing a rendezvous between Nichols and a teen.
Nichols was first arrested on May eighth. She was then arrested a second time on May twenty-first.
Among the thirteen charges filed against Nichols are six counts of improper sexual contact, four counts of grooming of a minor for sexual offense, two counts of child molestation, and one count of tampering with evidence. Investigators allege Nichols instructed a student to delete explicit messages she had sent before her initial arrest.
At least twenty-seven search warrants have been executed in the investigation. Detectives sought evidence from cell phones, Snapchat, Ring camera video, and school-issued technology. Warrants were also served on OnlyFans and AT and T.
One of the most striking details to emerge from those warrants involves a cellphone video. According to investigators, the video allegedly shows Nichols wearing a light-yellow sweatshirt with the words Jesus Loves You across the back while engaged in a sexual act with a student. That video, along with footage of other alleged encounters, reportedly began to circulate among students. Nichols is a graduate of Liberty University, an evangelical Christian college.
Newly filed warrants also reveal that some students who became aware of Nichols allegedly owning and operating an OnlyFans account used that knowledge to demand better grades, threatening to expose the account if she refused.
Nichols mother reportedly attempted to retrieve Nichols work laptop from Alexander High School Principal Laura McAdams. Separately, Nichols mother also tried to have a family members phone returned to her. Nichols aunt, who had been given that phone, said she wanted to turn the phone over to the sheriffs office, afraid of any evidence being destroyed if the phone was returned.
A judge ordered Nichols held under house arrest, except for medical appointments, religious services, and legal consultations. She was also ordered to wear an ankle monitor, undergo a mental evaluation, avoid contact with minors not related to her, and stay away from the school. She was released on a seventy-four thousand dollar bond.
Defense attorney Christy Draper stated, As this matter is currently under active investigation, we will not provide detailed comment at this time. We are fully committed to getting to the bottom of these allegations and ensuring that every relevant fact is brought forward.
The Douglas County School System said in a statement, Student safety is the districts highest priority. The alleged behavior is unacceptable and violates the professional standards all employees are required to uphold.
Neighbor Keith Scott, who lives near Alexander High School, responded to the allegations, saying, Its preying on the kids. Its a kid.
