The incident occurred at the Dos Coyotes Border Cafe inside the Thunder Valley Casino in Lincoln, California. On August 19, 2026, around 7 p.m., deputies responded to a call of a possible stabbing at the restaurant. Police identified the suspect as Joseph Naugle. Authorities allege that Naugle stabbed five fellow staffers at the casino restaurant. Naugle was taken into custody within minutes of deputies arriving at the scene. He was subsequently booked into the Placer County Jail. Naugle is formally charged with two felony counts of attempted murder. On Friday, Naugle made his first court appearance and arraignment was scheduled. During the proceedings, five separate criminal protective orders were filed against him. Police state that the suspect knew all five victims and no additional suspects are outstanding. Police have not released a possible motive for the attack.
