On May eleventh, thirty-three-year-old Nayda Rivera Roman was in the drive-thru line at the KFC restaurant on Richmond Road in Lexington, Kentucky. According to an arrest citation, Roman became frustrated with how long it was taking to receive her food. That frustration reportedly led to a verbal exchange with employees at the restaurant.
After the argument, Roman left her spot in the drive-thru line and drove around to the restaurant's parking lot. Once there, authorities say Roman parked her vehicle, opened the trunk, and removed an AR-fifteen-style rifle. She then allegedly pointed the firearm at one of the KFC employees in what the arrest citation describes as a threatening manner. Roman then drove away from the scene without her order.
Police responded to the restaurant and reviewed surveillance footage from the KFC. Investigators also used body camera footage from prior traffic stops involving Roman's vehicle to further identify her. The employee who had been allegedly threatened then identified Roman in a photo lineup, according to authorities.
Roman was arrested and booked into the Fayette County Detention Center on Monday, July twenty-eighth. She is charged with one count of first-degree wanton endangerment. Under Kentucky law, first-degree wanton endangerment is classified as a Class D felony, carrying a penalty of one to five years in jail.
