A man faces multiple charges after officials said he allegedly stole a vehicle, used the victim’s credit card and then led police on a chase that spanned from Barboursville to Ohio and back into Huntington.

Lovus Austin Brewer, 24, is charged with computer fraud, grand larceny, fraudulent use of an access device and fleeing with reckless indifference, according to a criminal complaint filed in Cabell County Magistrate Court.

Brewer is accused of stealing a vehicle from First Christian Baptist Church in the 400 block of Buffington Street in Huntington on Friday and then leading officials on a wild chase that traversed half the county and part of Ohio.

Deputies said they initially located Brewer and the stolen vehicle after the victim reported that his credit card had been used in the Barboursville area.

The vehicle was spotted near the intersection of U.S. 60 and Farmdale Road, where deputies said Brewer began to flee west, eventually reaching speeds up to 70 mph on East Pea Ridge Road and then 90 mph back on U.S. 60.

Deputies said Brewer eventually led them through the Altizer and Guyandotte areas before crossing the 31st Street Bridge into Ohio and coming back into West Virginia and through Huntington.

The chase ended after the vehicle hit stop sticks along Ninth Avenue and came to a halt in the 1300 block of Hal Greer Boulevard where Brewer was taken into custody, the criminal complaint said.

Brewer is accused of passing multiple vehicles on the shoulder, running two vehicles off the road and running through more than two dozen stop signs and red lights.

Police said in the complaint that the victim’s credit card was used at three different locations for a total of about $60. A cell phone worth about $1,000 was not found.

Brewer is being held in Western Regional Jail on a $97,500 cash only bond.
