Welcome to Arrest Stories. A Miami rapper's own music videos may have handed investigators everything they needed to arrest him. Heres what may have happened.
On Thursday, July twenty fifth, twenty twenty six, twenty six year old Lazaro Lesteiro-Diaz, who performed under the stage names Drakula and YungLazz, was arrested in Miami, Florida following a joint investigation by the Miami Police Department, Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, and the FBI's Violent Gang Task Force. His arrest report lists his occupation as rap-fraudster.
Investigators say they began reviewing Lesteiro-Diaz's social media content in the weeks leading up to the arrest. On June seventeenth, he was seen in a video holding a laptop with money on it and wearing a headset commonly associated with call center fraud operations while rapping in Spanish. On July sixth, he livestreamed himself rapping while displaying a gun, large amounts of cash, a laptop, and what investigators described as the personal information of multiple victims. He also flashed a bottle of promethazine codeine cough syrup during that stream.
Among his lyrics, investigators cited the line, "I called you from a Bank of America number, that means I'ma boof a plot." A detective with the Miami Police Department explained in the arrest report, "That means I'm going to take your money. I'm going to access your bank account and you're giving me your code, everything over the phone and I won't even touch you."
On Thursday, authorities executed a search warrant at his home on Southwest forty third Avenue in Miami-Dade. Inside, they recovered a Glock twenty one with an extended magazine, ammunition, multiple identification documents, suspected promethazine, suspected cannabis, a call center headset, and cash.
Behind the home, investigators found two decapitated chickens. Adjacent to them was a room described in the arrest report as full of Cuban Santeria and voodoo witchcraft material. The arrest report states, "Law enforcement then discovered a live baby goat inside a box near the Santeria witchcraft material. The baby goat's neck was painted in orange, which is a sign marking where the animal would get cut/slaughtered." The goat, named Valor, was removed from the property and transferred to Miami Animal Rescue. Students at Felix Varela High School's Veterinary Academy are currently caring for him before he heads to a horse farm in Ocala.
During questioning, Lesteiro-Diaz admitted the seized items were his and said he purchased the promethazine to cure his sickness. He also stated he had previously attempted to commit fraud before invoking his right to remain silent.
Facing a judge on Friday, he was told, "You've been charged with five counts." Those charges include possession of a controlled substance, money laundering, organized scheme to defraud, unlawful possession of identification, and animal cruelty with intent to intent to injure or kill. His bond was set at thirty thousand dollars.
This is not his first arrest. In twenty twenty, Lesteiro-Diaz was charged with written threats to kill after posting threatening messages targeting Black, gay, Nicaraguan, and Colombian people. He received withheld adjudication and his probation in that case was terminated in twenty twenty two.
