NEW JERSEY MAN ARRESTED AFTER BOW AND ARROW MURDER SPARKS HOURS-LONG STANDOFF
Welcome to Arrest Stories. A forty-four-year-old New Jersey man has been arrested on murder and arson charges after allegedly killing a father with a bow and arrow, then setting fires during an hours-long police standoff. Here's what may have happened.
On Saturday, December twentieth, twenty twenty-five, at approximately six forty-five in the evening, Kearny Police Department was notified of an injured man in the area of Kearny and Johnston Avenues in Kearny, New Jersey. Pablo Criollo had been struck in the back with an arrow while walking home from work. Surveillance video shows Criollo walking then stumbling down the sidewalk before collapsing after being hit with the arrow.
Criollo was transported to University Hospital in Newark where he was pronounced dead. The victim's wife described her husband as a hardworking man, saying "My husband was a good man - a great man. He was a handworker; you can tell from the clothes he was wearing and to be killed like that from behind." She added "I'm devastated - not only for me but also for my daughter. She asks for him every morning 'When is daddy coming home?'" Criollo had been looking forward to getting paid on Sunday to buy a new table for Christmas.
Police identified Oscar Feijoo as a person of interest in the arrow attack. When law enforcement attempted to make contact with Feijoo at his residence on twenty Kearny Avenue, he barricaded himself inside his home. During the standoff, Feijoo ignited multiple fires early Sunday morning while remaining barricaded inside. A witness reported "Around seven or eight o'clock the police started showing up and they started doing the investigative work. And about twelve a.m. I walked by and I saw that's when the SWAT team started showing up."
Feijoo "remained barricaded in the home for several hours after fire suppression activities were complete" according to officials. He eventually left the home while armed with knives and was taken into custody. Residents in the area were placed on lockdown during the search and standoff.
Feijoo has been charged with murder, aggravated arson, and unlawful possession of a weapon. Officials stated "Additional charges are expected."
