In Monongah, West Virginia, deputies from the Marion County Sheriffs Department responded to St. Barbaras Nursing Home on May twenty second. Upon arrival, an administrator showed deputies security footage that had been recorded three days earlier, on May nineteenth.
That footage allegedly captured Desiree Heater, thirty four, of Barrackville, West Virginia, approaching a patient seated in a wheelchair. According to court documents, the security footage showed Heater slapping the patient in the wheelchair with her right hand. Heater then walked away from the patient.
However, Heater returned. Court documents state that she then pulled the wheelchair in a manner that caused the patient to fall forward out of the seat. The patient was subsequently taken to a hospital to receive treatment.
Heater has been charged with abuse or neglect of an incapacitated adult, according to the Marion County Sheriffs Department. Following her arrest, Heater was booked into the North Central Regional Jail.
The case centers on conduct captured directly on the nursing homes own security system, which administrators turned over to law enforcement upon deputies arrival on May twenty second.
