Welcome to Arrest Stories. A Palm Bay woman arrested for resisting an officer during a traffic stop walked into Brevard County Jail carrying more than she bargained for. Heres what may have happened.
On a Saturday morning in Brevard County, Florida, deputies with the Brevard County Sheriffs Office arrested thirty year old Reagan Cox on a charge of resisting without violence during a traffic stop. Cox was then transported to Brevard County Jail, where the situation took a significant turn.
During the intake process, a body scanner detected an abnormality in Cox's lower body area. Corrections deputies escorted Cox to a change out room for a more thorough search. According to the Brevard County Sheriffs Office, Cox was then observed attempting to cover her buttocks area with her hand.
The sheriffs office described what happened next in a statement, saying, "Our Corrections Deputies moved Cox to a change out room where she was observed trying to cover her buttocks area with her hand. After moving her hand, a baggie dropped to the floor containing approximately three point eight grams of cocaine."
Cox denied any knowledge of the drugs. She told deputies that someone must have placed it there during an "intimate encounter."
The sheriffs office responded to the claim publicly on Facebook, writing, "You really just can't make this stuff up, butt you sure can try as this one puts the ole those are not my pants excuse to shame."
Sheriff Wayne Ivey also weighed in, stating, "Folks, if not realizing that someone left cocaine in your Jail Purse is not a good enough reminder to not do drugs, then I don't know what is."
As a result of the incident, Cox received an additional charge of introducing a controlled substance into a detention facility. She was released from custody the same day.
