Welcome to Arrest Stories.

A woman dubbed the Black Widow allegedly tried to kill a man for money, leaving him in a hospital bed and fleeing the scene.

Here's what may have happened.

The incident centers on an event on August 15 at a residence in Davenport. On that date, the victim left the residence of Samantha Adams while feeling groggy and backed his car into a vehicle. Two days later, the victim was admitted to a hospital after suffering a benzodiazepine overdose. Police say Adams met the 69-year-old victim online for sex and they shared alcoholic beverages before he allegedly ingested benzodiazepines. Authorities allege she attempted to extort the victim and was motivated by money. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office began its investigation on August 20 after the medical incident was reported. Samantha Adams was taken into custody on August 27 at a shopping center in Davenport. She is formally charged with second-degree attempted murder and tampering with evidence. Additional charges include possession of oxycodone, hydrocodone, alprazolam, and other prescription drugs. She also faces charges for resisting without violence, possession of drug paraphernalia, and offering to commit prostitution. All suspects presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
