A Richmond home was engulfed in flames late Tuesday night, leaving a family devastated and authorities scrambling to find the person responsible.

Firefighters responded to the scene and discovered four victims trapped inside the burning structure. Tragedy struck quickly as a 47-year-old man succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Another victim, a young boy, also died after being transported to the hospital. Two other family members, including a small child, remained hospitalized in critical condition. Police identified the suspect as Sergio Ivan Rivera-Vega. Authorities located Rivera-Vega near the scene and took him into custody without incident. He was booked into the Richmond Police Department jail on suspicion of intentionally starting the fire. Investigators allege that the fire was set intentionally, resulting in the deaths and severe injuries of multiple family members. Prosecutors have formally charged Rivera-Vega with murder and arson causing great bodily injury. All suspects presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
