Welcome to Arrest Stories. A shirtless man wearing a motorcycle helmet dragged a New Jersey police sergeant with an electric bicycle before being taken into custody outside a Rochelle Park parking lot. Heres what may have happened.
On Wednesday, July fifteenth, at approximately eight thirty in the evening, patrol officers were dispatched to sixty Essex Street in Rochelle Park, New Jersey, after callers reported a shirtless man rubbing his genitals on an occupied vehicle in a parking lot. Callers also reported that the man was acting erratically and aggressively trying to enter their vehicle.
Sergeant Brian Cobb and Officer Chris Kiszka responded and located the man, who was shirtless and wearing a motorcycle helmet. Upon contact, the man immediately attempted to flee on an electric bicycle. During the pursuit, Sergeant Cobb was briefly dragged by the e-bike before he and Officer Kiszka were able to subdue the suspect and take him into custody.
Investigators later determined that the suspect had stolen food from multiple businesses, walked behind store counters, and jumped onto the trunk of the original callers vehicle. During the arrest, the suspect also attempted to bite officers and emergency medical technicians.
The suspect was identified as Tyler Lee, twenty seven years old, of Garfield. Lee was charged with burglary, attempted vehicle burglary, shoplifting, assault, aggravated assault on a public servant, and resisting arrest. Lee was lodged in the Bergen County Jail pending a court appearance.
Detectives and officers from Maywood, Saddle Brook, and Paramus assisted in the investigation. Rochelle Park Police Captain James DePreta provided details regarding the incident.
