Welcome to Arrest Stories. A thirty-three-year-old New Jersey woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly striking a teenage girl on a busy boardwalk over what the girl was wearing. Heres what may have happened.
On the evening of Friday, July third, Point Pleasant Beach Police Department officers responded to the Point Pleasant Beach boardwalk in Ocean County, New Jersey, to investigate an alleged assault involving an adult woman and a female juvenile.
According to police, Kaitlyn Tracey of Allenhurst, in Monmouth County, became upset over the juvenile's clothing, described by police as quote patriotic colored sweatpants with political wording. Tracey allegedly yelled at the teen before striking her twice with an open hand, once to the body and once to the face. Tracey then left the area before officers could identify her.
Video of the incident circulated on Facebook before being removed from the platform. Police said the video helped investigators identify Tracey. Comments on the since-removed video indicated the teen was wearing President Donald Trump-branded pants. Police did not describe the clothing in further detail in their official update.
Following an investigation by the department's Detective Bureau, Tracey was identified on July sixth. She was charged with simple assault, endangering the welfare of a child, harassment, and obstruction. Detective Korey McCormack filed the charges. Chief Robert Kowalewski announced the charges in a news release.
Tracey turned herself in during the early morning hours of July thirteenth and was taken into custody without incident at police headquarters. She was processed and transported to Ocean County Jail, where she is being held pending a detention hearing under New Jersey's bail reform law.
Jail records show Tracey is a Canadian citizen and is married. Immigration and Customs Enforcement filed a detainer following her arrest, according to jail records.
The investigation received assistance from the Asbury Park Police Department, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, the Toronto Police Service's Eleventh District, and the United States Customs and Border Protection Intelligence Team.
