Welcome to Arrest Stories. A Royal Palm Beach woman was arrested after throwing a lit firecracker at a marked deputy patrol vehicle and then breaking into a dance right in front of responding officers. Heres what may have happened.
Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a disturbance call at approximately eight ten p m on a Sunday at a home located at ten thousand two hundred fifty Rhythm Circle in Royal Palm Beach.
Upon arriving at the scene, deputies identified the woman standing in the roadway in front of the home as thirty eight year old Latoya Bowles. According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office criminal complaint, as deputies parked their clearly marked patrol vehicle, Bowles made direct eye contact with them, lit a red firecracker, and threw it at the patrol vehicle. She then began dancing.
Deputies attempted to speak with Bowles following the incident. During that interaction, Bowles attempted to light a second red cylindrical firecracker, which she held in her left hand. A deputy, citing concern for their own safety, ordered Bowles to stop. She complied with the lawful command.
In the probable cause affidavit, the responding deputy wrote, quote, due to her actions when I first arrived on scene, I feared that she may attempt to use the firework to cause me harm, end quote.
Bowles then made a statement to deputies regarding her neighbors, saying, quote, when you leave, she will light it and throw it towards her neighbor's home due to him calling the police, end quote.
Deputies determined probable cause existed to place Bowles under arrest. She was taken into custody without further incident and transferred to the Palm Beach County Jail. Bowles faces three charges, including two felonies for a weapon offense and aggravated assault on specified personnel.
