Welcome to Arrest Stories. A sixty-two-year-old woman from Coventry, Rhode Island walked into a police station in the early morning hours of May twenty-ninth to file a complaint about drugs she had purchased. Heres what may have happened.
At approximately two-thirty in the morning, Gloria Tiberi entered the Coventry Police station. Tiberi told officers she was unhappy that the drugs she purchased might be fentanyl and not cocaine, which is what she had wanted.
Officers took possession of the narcotics Tiberi had brought into the station. The drugs were then tested and came back presumptively positive for fentanyl, a controlled substance.
At that point, officers placed Tiberi under arrest. She was secured in a holding cell until her court appearance later that morning.
Tiberi appeared before a Third District Court judge and was arraigned on a charge of possession of a controlled substance, ten grams or less. She pleaded not guilty and was given one thousand dollar surety bail.
However, Tiberi was then presented to Superior Court as a bail violator on a previous case, which also includes narcotics charges. As a result of that violation, she is being held.
The Coventry Police Department issued a statement following the arrest, saying, quote, PSA Don't walk into a police station with illegal drugs, without expecting to stay in handcuffs.
